Our network vendor is telling us to upgrade our iSCSI SAN to 10Gb.

But the network switches alone are $4500 each (or more), and we need 2! (He sells Dell gear.)

Are there reliable options for cheaper?

Wellll, this site is kinda quiet. Found a thread on spiceworks which is much more active. Found a couple of useful paths:

  • Dell X4012 is a 12port, 10Gb managed, for $1239.
  • Netgear 12-Port ProSafe 10Gb Smart Switch XS712T // Netgear has unmanaged option for sub $900, and managed options for ~$1400

Time's moved on, but I bought a cheap Hasivo 8 port 10G chinese switch from aliexpress and it works fine with iscsi. Great for the home-lab because its very quiet and has standard fans.

All metal rackmount case, VLANs, LAGGs, COS, and it has a SSH interface too.

Downsides, cannot be managed by ipv6. Web UI is a bit messy, and saving changes is a two step cisco-like process - you have to do a "copy running-config startup-config" after saving changes.
