4K displays have a higher power consumption compared to normal 1980x1024 ones.
Are there on the market any 4K displays that can dynamically reduce their resolution turning 4 pixels into one? E.g.:
p1 p2 p1 p1 --> --> p1 p3 p4 p1 p1
This would reduce by 75% the amount of graphics memory and of data transfer to the display.
Would this save any amount of energy?
If this was true, it would be possible reduce the resolution for longer battery life when 4K is not needed (e.g. when in a non perfectly static setting, like on a train, where details cannot be perceived).
