We have an old Cisco 2900 router now. I've been tasked with finding a replacement for it. I'm looking for Cisco or Meraki routers, it should be able to do VPN, we're a medium sized company with about 50 people.

So far, I haven't been given a budget. I'm leaning toward the MX64 for now.

  • VPN, easy to configure (GUI), easy to update, something for a small office of around 50 people. – Matt Damoz Nov 16 '18 at 16:06

If you don't mind the pricing (there is an ongoing cost for the Merakis last time I checked, X per device per year and the devices are not exactly cheap either), then Meraki's are excellent.

I've used a single MX, 2 Meraki PoE switches and 3 of the APs to cover an office of the size you mentioned, and having everything in their management interface was very convenient (as was the ability to upload a floor plan and have actual positioning of APs reflected there). VPN concurrency was never and issue and we were throttled on the uplink rather than the capacity of the MX anyway. Otherwise the setup ran very reliably and managing updates and looking at logs/monitoring was a breeze.

This was all a few years ago, just prior to the Cisco acquisition, and I have moved to a company with a different provider (Aruba) now, but I ran the Merakis in 2 locations for almost 3 years without a hitch, I would recommend them in general (again, if you are OK with the cost).
