On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Full elections have three phases and an optional fourth phase (Primary):

  1. Question Collection
  2. Nomination
  3. Primary
  4. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

Jeff Schaller

I'm one of the moderators at UNIX & Linux, having been elected there about three years ago. I'm familiar with responsibilities of being a moderator as well as the tooling and coordination behind the scenes. I'm happy to help out a site that helped me many years ago.

I do not have many reputation points here, as most of my Stack Exchange time is spent on U&L (voting, editing, moderating) and in Charcoal HQ assisting with their spam-fighting effort. If elected, I believe I can spend the time required to moderate this site as well as participate in moderator and Meta-based discussions.

I'll throw my hat in so ya'll have two candidates.

If elected, I'll try to open the page in the morning and spend a couple minutes handling whatever issues are top of page. I'm pretty busy, so that's kind of a weak promise.

Jeff is an excellent candidate. You should vote for Jeff.

This election is over.
